On June 5, JICA Mongolia Office Director Shinichi Tanaka and Minister of Finance B. Jawaharan signed a gift agreement for the grant aid “Scholarship Program for Human Resource Development” up to a total amount of 209 million yen ($290 Million).
This plan provides young administrative officers and other future leaders of Mongolia with the necessary tuition and other fees to study at graduate schools in Japan. With today’s signing, up to 16 students will study at Japanese graduate schools this year.
Since the program began in 2001, 416 young people from Mongolia have studied in Japan. The foreign students who have already returned home with master’s degrees are working in various fields, including the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Construction and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Road Transport and Development, and the Central Bank.
The year 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of the start of Japan’s ODA, and also marks the beginning of the new four-year phase of this plan. It is expected that the human resources developed through the implementation of this plan will contribute to solving the problems faced by Japan in various fields in the future, and will also contribute to mutual understanding and the building of friendly relations between the two countries.
