Odakyu Electric Railway announced that it has begun designing a new type of car for the limited express Romance Car, which is scheduled to enter service in March 2029 and will replace the Type 30000 “EXE” (unrenewed car).
The concept is to replace the Type 50000 “VSE,” which will be out of service in 2023. The interior and exterior design will be handled by the COA first-class architect office, and the rolling stock will be designed by Nihon Sharyo Seisakusho. The design and other details will be studied over the next year.
COA first-class architects’ office commented on the design, “We aim to breathe new life into the Romance Car, which has continued to evolve while carrying on tradition, and to create a train design that will be loved by many people.
