Posted on 2024-12-132025-01-13 by Editor in Chief

JR East will implement a timetable revision on March 15, 2025. The main points of the revision are described here.

On the Tohoku Shinkansen, one round-trip “Hayabusa” train will be added between Tokyo Station and Shin-Aomori Station at 2:00 p.m. each. On the Yamagata Shinkansen “Tsubasa” line, the number of trains using E8 Series trains will be increased, and a plan was also announced to operate all trains with E8 Series trains by the spring of 2026. Some trains on the “Yamabiko” and “Tsubasa” trains will have their operating times revised, shortening the travel time by up to 13 minutes.

As for limited express trains, all regular limited express trains on the Joban Line, including the “Tokiwa”, will depart from and arrive at Shinagawa Station. On the Chuo Line, the number of “Azusa” down trains starting from Tokyo Station will be increased, while one round trip train that used to depart from/arrive at Minamikotani Station will now depart from/arrive at Hakuba Station. The “Narita Express” will increase the number of trains stopping at Chiba Station in the evening and nighttime. In addition, the “Hachioji” and “Oume” trains will be discontinued, and the “Akagi” train on the Takasaki Line will operate only on weekdays.

In the Tokyo metropolitan area, as previously announced, green car service will begin on the Chuo Line Rapid and Ome Line. The “Holiday Rapid Okutama,” a special rapid train, will also depart from Tokyo Station for down trains. One-man operation will begin on the Nambu Line and Joban Line local trains.

On the Hetsu Main Line (between Niitsu Station and Shinbuta Station), Hakushin Line (between Niigata Station and Shinbuta Station), and Echigo Line (between Yoshida Station and Niigata Station) in the Niigata area and on the Shinonoi Line (between Matsumoto Station and Shinanoi Station) in the Nagano area, the one-man train service will be changed to allow boarding and alighting from all doors including unmanned stations. In addition, a new station, Kamisho Station, will be opened between Hakusan Station and Niigata Station on the Echigo Line.
