Roadside Station Ogawamachi (1220-1, Oaza Ogawa, Ogawa-machi, Hiki-gun, Saitama Prefecture) will reopen on May 30 after about a year of redevelopment.
Located in Ogawa-machi, Saitama, a food town with a fermentation and brewing culture, and accessible in about 1.5 hours from central Tokyo, the roadside station is managed and operated by Isle Corporation and TTC, and the facilities are operated by LSP.
The facility will feature a new sales area featuring vegetables and fruits from local farmers, as well as souvenirs made from leeks, potatoes, and fermented foods, all of which are local specialties of Saitama. Kempi-and-Mitarashi Ogawa-an” sells Mitarashi pudding and extra-fine sweet potato kempi-using specially cultivated soy sauce from Yamaki Brewery, a long-established business in Saitama; “Ogawa Soft” using milk produced in Saitama Prefecture offers local soft ice cream inspired by the Tsuki River in Ogawa Town; and “Bakery Ogawakko” sells bread made with Fukaya leeks and thin-skinned anpan (bean paste) like Japanese paper. The “Satoyama Gohan Shokudo” restaurant, which seats approximately 140 people, offers dishes that make use of organic vegetables and locally fermented ingredients. In addition, facilities for experiencing the traditional craft of “Ogawa washi” have been expanded, and visitors can now observe a demonstration of “Hosokawa washi,” a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.
In addition, electric bicycles and tuk-tuks are available for rent, a children’s playground and promenade have been developed, and local resources have evolved into an outing spot that can be enjoyed by all five senses.
